Dental bonding is a good way to fix teeth that are chipped, are discolored or have large gaps in between. However, as with many dental restorations, you need to take good care of your bonding to get the full benefits.

You will need to be careful that you do not break the bonding, as it is more fragile than your natural teeth. Some things that can hurt bonding, and natural teeth too, are chewing ice and crunching on hard candy. Chewing on non-food items like pens and opening bags with your teeth can also have a negative effect on your bonding, and they are not good for your natural teeth either. As long as you are cautious about what you bite into, you can preserve the bonding.

Since bonding can help with discoloration of your teeth, it is a real bummer when the bonding gets stained. Things like coffee, red wine and tea can stain dental bonding, especially during the first couple of days after it was applied. You can drink these beverages after those first two days, but we caution you against drinking them too much, as the staining risk is still there.

There is a way to help you combat any staining that may occur, and that is by brushing and flossing daily and getting the dentist to clean your teeth every six months. However, please understand that they will not be much help to you if you drink and eat too many things that stain.
