If it’s time to finally teach your child how to brush their teeth, we are here to help you! Teaching your child how to brush is a life lesson that will be used each and every day. So, do your best to explain the proper techniques and tips that are required in a well-done teeth cleaning.

How do I know my child is ready to learn how to brush?
Each child is different when it comes to developing motor skills, which is why this answer depends on you. If you feel like your child is able to tie their own shoes, they might be ready to begin brushing their teeth. Generally, children begin to develop the brushing skills by the time they head to preschool. If you aren’t sure if your child is ready, please feel free to call our office and ask our friendly dental team what we think.

How do I teach my child how to brush?
Children generally learn how to brush by observing and by partnering. So, we recommend teaching your child how to brush by demonstrating on your own teeth. Then, give your child a toothbrush with a pea-sized dab of toothpaste on it and have them brush along with you. If they need help with certain fundamentals, feel free to show them how to do them correctly by demonstrating on your smile.
